Population with disabilities
POPULATION WITH DISABILITIES
In Nepāl, out of the total population of 29,164,578, it appears that 2.2 percent have some form of disability. By constituency, the three constituencies with the highest proportion of persons with disabilities are Jājarakoṭ 1, Myāgdī 1, and Manāṅ 1, where 4.9, 4.8, and 4.7 percent of the total population, respectively, appear to have a disability. These disability prevalence rates appear to be about 2.5 percentage points higher than the national average. In Bārā 2 only 1% of total population have disability.
To show these disability types effectively on a thematic map, we have categorized the disability types into 5 functional categories:
Physical and physiological - it includes "phisical disability" and "Hemophilia" impacting mobility, physical functioning, or chronic physical health conditions.
Visual disability - it includes "total blind" and "partially blind" which are connected by the visual sensory domain.
Hearing and speech - it includes "deaf", "hearing loss", "Voice and speaking" which are often grouped together as communication - related sensory domain.
Cognitive and mental health - it includes "Mental", "Intellectual" and "Autism", conditions affecting neurodiversity, cognitive development, and psychiatric health.
Complex / multiple - it includes" Deaf and blind" and "Multiple disabilities", situations where a single category doesn't capture the overlapping functional impacts.
Out of total population having some form of disability:
Jājarakoṭ 1 has the highest percentage (53.2%) of population with "Physical and physiological" disability, while Manāṅ 1 has the lowest (22.3%).
Parsā 4 has the highest percentage (34.8%) of population with "Visual disability" disability, while Myāgdī 1 has the lowest (12.9%).
Myāgdī 1 has the highest percentage (37.4%) of population with "Hearing and speech" disability, while Bārā 2 has the lowest (12.2%).
Moraṅ 4 has the highest percentage (13.6%) of population with "Cognitive and mental health" disability, while Rukum (Pu.) 1 has the lowest (2.4%).
Manāṅ 1 has the highest percentage (17.0%) of population with "Complex / multiple" disability, while Ḍolpā 1 has the lowest (6.1%).
Among the 165 constituencies, 156 constituencies have "Physical and physiological" as predominant form of disability, 5 constituencies have "Hearing and speech" as predominant form of disability and 4 constituencies have "Visual disability" as predominant form of disability.
